Simple and easy clothing for your newborn

Are you overwhelmed with all the things needed for your newborn baby? Here are simple and easy clothing for your newborn that will prepare you for success in the first few months. Read on to find out!

If you ask moms what their go to baby outfits are, I think probably the most of them would say sleepers! Well, I would anyway. There is a good reason for this. Not only do sleepers keep your sweet little one warm, but they are also very to wiggle your baby in and out of to perform quick and fuss free diaper changes and conveniently fit into a diaper bag.

A diaper change that is easy to perform will keep you feeling more blessed than stressed – especially when you’re still getting into the groove with your little one.

plan out your baby’s wardrobe

Depending on your personality type, there are a lot of ways to approach this subject. Having a baby girl especially, seems to be all about the clothes. I’m talking about outfit changes like five times a day, at least, you know, just because there may be so many cute things to wear.

I tend to consider myself to be extremely practical when it comes to clothing but honestly, I had no idea how fast my little one would grow!  With babies, we don’t only need to think about the type of outfits the baby requires, but also the different sizes that need to be kept on hand. That way your baby will always have clothes that fit just right.

Did I mention that they grow so quickly?

You need to strategically curate your baby’s wardrobe. It’s really not has hard as you may think. If you are lucky enough to have a registry that people stick to, you may most likely get exactly what you want.

After being gifted a plethora of clothing, I have come to realize that minimal is best. A minimal well curated wardrobe is key because

1. You don’t want to feel sad over cute outfits that your baby didn’t get a chance to wear because she out grew them before she even got the chance to wear them or

2. The weather was never quite suited for the outfit… so off to never-wear-me-land it sadly goes.

Keep Frequent diaper changes in mind

How often will you need to change baby’s diaper?

The standard is to check your baby’s diaper about every two hours or whenever you feed baby. If your little one has very active bowels, your diaper changes will always require outfit changes.

Items of clothing that are easy to remove around the diaper area will be a godsend. Think, simple and easy clothing.

If your little ones clothes are even slightly on the tighter side (I learned this the hard way), the diaper will fail to hold in its contents. So of course it will inevitably be, clean up on aisle baby. Sometimes the clean up will require a bath and an outfit change. Therefore, keeping baby’s clothings simple and easy is key!

Make sure baby’s clothes are not tight or too snug

It was a sad and subtle discovery for me after about eight outfit changes one day, that my baby probably needed to go up a clothing size. This is a tough pill to swallow especially after you have washed all the new clothes and taken off the tags.

Can I stress again the importance of making sure your baby’s clothing isn’t tight?

Take for instance, the sweet ending of an eventful day when you are all done with your baby’s evening bath and feed. Then, your baby in her ever-so-slightly snug sleeper, blows out her diaper and the mess gets all up the cute little folds of her back and all the way up to her armpits.

Let me say it again, trying to wear those snug clothes is not worth it.

The easiest Newborn wardrobe

You may or may not chose to get newborn sizes for your baby. I was told I wouldn’t need these but, I had a baby that was just under 9 pounds and still used them for about a month. Infants have a lot of cute outfits, but for about the first several months I would suggest that you simplify as much as possible. A major reason to stick with simple and easy clothing for your newborn, is that you will be changing a lot of diapers or learning how, if you’re new at the game. So keeping things simple is key.  Here is my suggestion for simple and easy clothing for your newborn to reduce the overwhelm:

  1. Footed sleepers with the 2 way zipper especially to keep the little one warm during diaper changes. These are great for cooler weather.
  2. Footless sleepers. These are great for warmer weather.
  3. Basic onesies
  4. A few dressy outfits for special occasions.
  5. Bows/turbans or a newsboy hat (pro-tip pair this with a sleeper to instantly elevate your baby’s look)
  6. Socks and hats (for cooler weather)
  7. Muslin blankets. These are a favorite of mine for layering when the weather is unpredictable.

About two month in, when we switched to the 0-3 months clothes, I feel like I got to the stage where I was more comfortable dressing up my infant and had a stronger diaper changing game. I would still say however, keep simplicity in mind. Start to dress your little one in more of the cute outfits but you will still need to change often to avoid the dreaded diaper rash.

Summary

You have a lot on your plate! Taking care of an infant is a full time job. You owe it to yourself to have simple and easy clothing for your newborn! Fuss free clothes that pull on and off with ease will help to reduce the overwhelm. During those early months you need a little more grace. Pairing a sleeper with a matching bow for a baby girl or a newsboy hat for a baby boy will make for a baby that looks so cute and dressed. And it will help you out with easier and faster diaper changes wherever you may be.
