Bored of being in your house? Especially in the summer time, sometimes you just want to be out but still need some air conditioning. Or perhaps something besides a splash pad, pool, outdoor playground or park. Here is a list seven ways to entertain your toddler when it’s too hot to be outside. You can do this together when you’ve been playing in doors for days on end, or need something a little more inspiring.

Museum

Research the local museums (or aquariums, if you’re lucky) in your city or town and go for an adventure. Your toddler can learn about animals, science, history or simply learn as they play if you have kids museum in your area.

Indoor playgrounds

Find an indoor playground in your area. On a particularly hot day or rainy day it can be a great way to do something novel and your toddler can meet new friends.

A good start for finding an indoor playground is at Children’s stores or fast food restaurants.  Places like this will be sure to entertain your toddler for a long stretch of time.

SHop

Take some time to go grocery shopping together. Hand your toddler the various items to put in the cart for you. Repeat the name of the items, perhaps what you use the item for and its colors.

Depending on the age of your toddler, this can be a lot of fun. My 20 month old has been enjoying this for the past several months!

It has also trained her to put things back on the shelf. No non discreet spending around here…

Mall

Go to the mall. Though some malls have great stores geared towards children and spending for children. You can take the cheaper way out…

If you don’t want to spend money you can still do quite a bit,  from window shopping to people watching.

Riding in carts greeting people and maybe ending it all with a nice treat.

Library

Your local library may have activities such as story time. Your toddler will sing and dance and also come back home with a great selection of books to keep her occupied at home.

Some libraries may also have musical, entertainment or crafting events that are fun for all ages.

Craft events

Crafting events at any craft store near you. Not only will you bring home something fun but you can also browse for things that you can put together in a cost effective way.

This will give your toddler purpose for minutes on end.

Change Your schedule

Wake up a little earlier or push back bed time. That way you can take advantage of the cooler parts of the day for a walk around the neighbor hood or a little outdoor at adventure.

You’ll still be able to have some fresh air and enjoy the outdoors more comfortably.
